The Republican-controlled Rules Committee voted 4-3 along party lines for GOP County Executive Edward Mangano's plan to lay off up to 400 county workers and demote 200 others if union leaders do not volunteer $75 million in savings by Thursday.
Carrie Solages has replaced Republican Incumbent John Ciotti in the 3rd Legislative District. Congratulations Carrie!

I want to speak this evening about where we are, a bit about how we got here, and, most importantly, where we’re going. I think a lot of voters woke up on the day after the 2009 election both shocked and surprised. I’m pretty sure that Ed Mangano woke up that morning feeling the same way. I know I did.
But it’s about a year and a half later and now the voters are getting to see the real consequences of their vote that Tuesday in November.

Bank of America and Wells Fargo, the first and fourth largest banks in the U.S. announced they would not be paying any taxes this year, as they will be filing “a loss.”
This latest punch-in-the-gut is only made worse by the fact that Republicans across the country, from Congress to statehouses, are working overtime to stop institutions and executives which received Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) funds from paying taxes on the bonuses they handed out with our tax dollars. read more »
Details of Mangano’s Assessment Fix Emerge Simple Solution – Just Don’t Pay Your Taxes!
Today, early details emerged of County Executive Ed Mangano’s aggressive plan to reform Nassau’s troubled assessment system. Under the Mangano plan, overtaxed and overassessed homeowners would be encouraged to make improvements to their homes, but just forget to report these improvements or to pay any additional taxes on them. Mangano has personally put this plan into effect for the past 14 years on his own home in Bethpage, saving him thousands of dollars over that period of time. read more »
